What do you like outside of FTC?

Besides Robotica I like to be active, doing things like go running or playing field hockey. Also, I love hanging out with friends. A lot of the time we meet up to go to the beach, go down town or we just stay at home to watch movies and talk.

What have you learned during your time in this team?

The best solution to every problem is duct tape.

Name: Jesse Fitíe

Age: 17

I’ve learned how to code(making programs) , it took a lot of time but I think every second was worth it, I also learned a lot about people, especially while working on outreach you have to send formal emails to a lot of people. I also learned to think outside of the box, because a lot of problems in FTC (programming, engineering and outreach) can be solved by thinking creatively.

Little story: Once upon a time we were doing an outreach project by teaching children how to program a robot. This was on one of the elementary schools of people of our team, and that school was near my house. We did this two times, and the children loved it. A couple weeks later my sister and I were baby sitting for three kids near our house, and low and behold, one of the kids was one of the kids I had given programming lessons to a few weeks prior. And my sister and I still babysit those three kids sometimes.

Name: Lars

Tasks: Intake and scoring

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: Cad software, research, 3D printing, laser cutting, team-building, procurement, building and the principles of design.

Favorite tool: Any stepper-operated cutting tool.

Story about yourself: I credit my participation in FTC with a lot of personal growth, both in a technical and personal sense. In my four years at FTC it’s safe to say I haven’t only made robots, but also friends. While I am sad that this will be my last time participating, I can say with confidence that doing so has had a positive impact on my life. I intend to stay involved with FIRST, and hope I can help it grow so as to allow others to experience what I have.

Name: Noah Lefébure

Tasks: PR and social media

Skills i learned during my time as a team member: When i joined FTC i was certain that i wanted to be an engineer or do something technical with the robot. But being part of this team made me learn that I wasn’t very good at that kind of stuff. So i went another direction, which helped me in figuring out what i want to later. FTC made me learn a lot about myself.

Favorite tool: My laptop and my camera

Story about yourself: A couple year ago all i wanted to do was something technical involving physics. That is the main reason i joined FLL in the first place. But when i found out that wasn’t something for me, i did not want to leave. My team became like a family to me and i found something else for myself to do, the blog, social media, etc.

Name: Mickey

Tasks: Jewel Manipulator (Glyph system)

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: This season I learned to use Autodesk Fusion 360, which helped me design the Jewel Manipulator. I also learned to work with carbon fiber, which I also used in my design.

Favorite tool: 3D printer

Story about yourself: I am involved in the First program since I was 9, I participated 4 times in the FLL and this is my 3rd year of FTC. This team is a team for 4 years, where some people left and some joined over time. I have seen all of it and I’ve always been happy to work together with this group of friends. This friendship we have is going to last even after the FTC.

Name: Thom

Tasks: Relic system

Skills i learned during my time as a team member: My first year participating with the FTC has been a great joy, mainly because of team Pink. In my first year Pink has teached me a lot, from creative thinking down to critical reflection. I’ve used these skills throughout the year by designing in Fusion, 3D printing, and looking at what you can improve on your component.

Favorite tool: 3D printer

Story about yourself: This is my first year as a participant for the FTC. Throughout high school I had heard a little bit of small talk about the FTC, however when I understood what it was really about I started to become a lot more interested. This wasn’t only due to the fact that it would be a fun and learning experience, but also due to the interest that I had in design. So joining Pink was the obvious choice. The team was very welcoming and we are all great friends with one another, which makes it a lot of fun! So you could say that it has turned out to be one of the best choices I’ve ever made!

Name: Julia

Tasks: CFO,

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: as this was my first year in FTC, I learned how to use different tools. I also learned how to develop professional relationships with companies.

Favorite tool: my laptop

Story about yourself: I never really thought about joining a robotics team, so when I got asked to join I was rather confused as to what my position in the team would be. It seems to me, however, that even though I didn’t necessarily have a big part in building the robot, I did find my place in the team, and with it I met some amazing people I can now call my friends!

Name: Kees

Tasks: Engineer, engineering Notebook, responsible for the pit

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: working efficient in a team and use special materials like carbon fibre and other special materials. To listen to others and to incorporate their ideas in the design.

Favorite tool: laser cutter

Story about yourself: From a young age I liked to build things. With lego, wood or other building materials. I always unscrewed machines to look inside and tried to improve them. FLL was the perfect program to develop my skills. After 4 years I was ready to to compete in the FTC where my design skills could grow. These learning programs have been a big part of my life, and i hope that i can use the skills that I learned, later in my life.

Name: Daan

Tasks: Engineer, Presentation

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: I learned how to use Fusion 360 designing software and was able to use these skills for the component I am working on. By 3D-printing or laser cutting the design, I could quickly see how the design had to be adjusted to make it perfect.

Favorite tool: Laser cutter

Story about yourself: When I started FTC, joined a different team. However, I did not feel comfortable and productive. After a year, I changed to Pink to the Future and have been a happy team member now for 2 years!

Name: Thijn

Task: Drivetrain, Manufacturing

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: I’ve always been a perfectionist which has definite upsides, but sadly, it also has a bunch of downsides. The most important thing I learned during my time with FIRST is dealing with this by managing workloads, asking for help and letting go every once in a while. When I find myself obsessing over a task I simply look to the laziest engineer I know – our coach Floor – and ask “What would he do?”. This technique never fails to make me realise that the easiest solution can often be the best solution.

Favorite tool: The astounding power yet humble simplicity of a waterjet cutter.

My Story: Before I even joined robotics I had always been interested in science and technology, so no wonder I ended up being a part of FIRST in the Netherlands. FLL was the first program I took part in which I enjoyed so much I was anxious to join FTC, which I’ve been doing for 3 seasons. Being inspired by the multidisciplinary nature of robotics and the uniquely American spirit of FIRST I will be continuing my involvement with competitive robotics at WPI in Massachusetts.

Name: Jorian Eisenburger

Tasks: Engineer, Driver, Engineering Notebook, Outreach

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: Presenting my ideas, working in a big group of people without anyone falling behind, staying gracious professional in a competitive atmosphere.

Favorite tool: 3-D printer (if that even counts as a tool)

Story about yourself:

I have always had a passion for building things since I was a small kid. I used to build with a lot of legos when I was just 5 years old. My parents noticed my passion for building and eventually bought a lego mindstorms set for me and my brother. This got me so enthusiastic about robotics that I immediately knew what I wanted to do: participate in my schools FLL program and join the team. After just one successful year as an FLL team we decided that we were ready for the next step, FTC. together we started this team. Team PINK TO THE FUTURE.

Name: Matthijs Vrakking

Tasks: Cad and engineer

Skills i learned during my time as a team member: I learned how to work efficient in a team. By having meetings and having to meet tight deadlines to make the design and building process as pleasant as possible.

Favorite tool: The bench drill

Verhaaltje over jezelf: When I was in elementary school i wanted to participate with the FLL, I unfortunately wasn’t allowed to. At first i wanted to join a technical school but they didn’t participated in the FIRST programs so i in the end decided to go the Maerlant Lyceum where i participated in the FLL. After 3 years of Fll and 2 international finals later my team and i started FTC. And that group is the core of the team we have now. Saying it is a team is not correct in my opinion for me this group feels like family and there is no were i’d rather be than with them having fun and doing what we love to do.

Name: Sebastiaan

Tasks: Programming

Skills I learned during my time as a team member: I learned how to work with computer vision in OpenCv and Vuforia. I also learned to develop driver controlled enhancements such as field centric drive and an auto balancing program that both use the internal IMU from the Rev Expansion Hub. All in all I improved my skills in Java, working with Android Studio and GitHub.

Favorite tool: A laptop

Story about myself: This is my 3rd season of FTC, before that I did 3 seasons of FLL. It all started with a simple flyer my coach gave everybody in my class, which advertised to join the school’s FLL team. And so, 6 years later, I’ve been to 9 international tournaments, 3 of which are world finals. My best friends are my team and our workplace a safe-haven from all troubles in daily life.

Name: Victor

Tasks: Relic system

Skills i learned during my time as a team member: many communicative skills, planning, simulating in cad and cad in general. Laser cutting

Favorite tool: laser cutter as it is so much faster than 3d printing, but 3d printing second for sure.

Story about myself: The best thing I ever learned when participating in FIRST programs is to have fun. Even when things don’t go the way you imagined. As I have been participating in First programs for 8 years, I still remember the first day I came in contact with First, this day my mom took me to the regional close to my house and from that day I was hooked. My mom made it all happen on my elementary school, she took the idea to start a team to the school board and then she contacted all my friends parents to see if they wanted to join the team (and they did). The following year we built a lego robot on sundays.

Skills?

I learned during my times as a team member: Helping others pursue their goals is the most rewarding goal for me.

Little Story:

This is my 9th year as a FTC coach and none of the teams I coached EVER went as far as Pink. This team has the momentum of the rocket and just keeps on going faster. The team’s goals for this year were stiff but I know they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. The way they cooperate within and outside the team is a joy to look at.

Name: Louise van Meeteren

What do you like the most about FTC?

I love seeing students grow and learn so much from ftc. They exceed their coaches and teach us.

What do you want to teach this year?

Thinking strategically even when the heat is on.

What do you like outside of FTC?

Playing volleyball and singing in a musical choir.

What have you learned during your time working with this team?

I learned that pink suits catch the eye. I learned that playing ninja is a good warming up for the competition. But mainly I learned that students are capable of so much more than we give them credit for in a regular lesson. 👍

Name: Julien de Kleijn

What do you like the most about FTC?
I like that FTC is creating an environment for students to inspire each other. The ability to learn from
each other and to cooperate are skills they can use for the rest of their lives.

What do you want to teach this year?
I want to teach my students to think for their selves. Don’t be limited by anybody or anything to
achieve your goals.

What do you like outside of FTC?
In my free time I like to play the guitar and board games. Music has been a big part of my life.

What have you learned during your time working with this team?
I’ve learned that a group can accomplish more than an individual. If a group is so tight as PTTF is,
there are no limits to what they can achieve.

Little story:
I never forget the year we visited the World Festival in St. Louis and a police officer visited our pit
area. He liked our golden shoes very much. One of the students told him he could have the shoes for
a good trade. Next day the officer suddenly appeared with a American football helmet of the St.
Louis Rams. That was an offer the student couldn’t resist.
